Saudi New Rule For Hajj Workers

Saudi New Rule For Hajj Workers

Authorities in Mecca have introduced new steps for workers involved in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage to obtain health certificates required for their roles. These certificates ensure workers meet health and safety standards during the busy pilgrimage season.

Workers must apply online through Saudi Arabia’s “Balady” platform to get their seasonal health certificate. The process includes two key requirements: passing medical tests at approved centers and completing a health education course. The course covers food safety, hygiene practices for haircutting/shaving services, and general public health guidelines. Once approved, the certificate will remain valid until July 10, 2024 (15th of Al Muharram, 1446 on the Islamic calendar). Officials have urged workers to complete these steps early to avoid delays in participating in Hajj activities.

To streamline the process, Saudi authorities began issuing Hajj-related work permits online in mid-April. This digital system eliminates the need for in-person visits to government offices, saving time for both workers and employers. The permits are managed through the “Tasareeh” platform, a unified system that coordinates Hajj-related permissions. Workers in Mecca-based businesses, seasonal visa holders, and those with temporary Hajj employment contracts can also request entry permits to the city via the “Muqeem” portal.

Additionally, strict visa rules are now in place. Starting April 29, only individuals with Hajj-specific visas are allowed to enter or stay in Mecca. All other visa holders must leave the city before this deadline to avoid penalties.

These measures aim to maintain safety and organization during the Hajj season, which attracts millions of pilgrims annually. By moving services online, Saudi authorities hope to reduce paperwork, improve efficiency, and ensure workers meet health standards critical for such a large-scale event.

Workers are encouraged to check official platforms for updates and submit applications promptly to secure their permits. With the Hajj pilgrimage being a cornerstone of Islamic tradition, these steps reflect Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to modernize services while preserving the spiritual and logistical integrity of the event.
